Influenza Vaccine Update

September 20, 2017

We are now fully stocked and ready to begin administering influenza vaccine for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.

The CDC now recommends that everyone age 6 months and older should get an influenza vaccine.

We administer the quadrivalent version of the vaccine that protects against four influenza viruses: two influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) viruses and two influenza B viruses.

There are usually two methods of administering the influenza vaccine. One is the traditional “flu” shot. The other is the needle-free nasal spray.

However the Center for Disease Control recommends only the traditional "flu" shot for the 2017-2018 season. The nasal spray Flumist vaccine is ineffective against this season's influenza strains and will not be used.

As always all vaccines used at Schwartz Pediatrics are preservative free.

Please call the office, to make an appointment as soon as possible.
